VIDEO: Fears over plan to cut M1 speed limit

Business leaders in Derbyshire have slammed a Government bid to cut the speed limit along a busy part of the M1 in an attempt to slash levels of pollution.

Proposals to reduce the speed limit to 60mph between junctions 28, at South Normanton, and 35A on the M1 triggered fears from the Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire Chambers of Commerce that the 34-mile slow-down zone would “negatively impact” businesses, commuters and overall journey times.

A spokesman said: “Logistics operators, hauliers, distributors and public transport operators would all have to factor in longer journey times, which would increase costs.”
