VIDEO: Town pulls together for bed push

Cash was raised by hospital staff, scouts and members of a karate club on Saturday as they raced to push hospital beds up Bath Street.

The annual fundraising event arranged by the Ilkeston Community Hospital League of Friends also saw a market stall and coffee morning in the Mayor’s Parlour.

Cash was still being counted as the Advertiser went to press but chairman of the League of Friends Mike Perry thinks the total amount collected will top £800.

Plans for the Stanley Common Karate Club and 2nd Ilkeston Scouts to pull a Rolls Royce up Bath Street had to be scrapped after the claassic car broke down so the groups pulled the bed through Ilkeston town centre instead.

Mike Perry said: “We were a little disappointed that the Rolls Royce sprung a leak but the event was still a big success.

“A big thank you to everyone who took part and volunteered on the day.
