Residents of Dale Abbey have been working with the police to tackle motorists who speed through their village.

A community speedwatch took place on May 15 at Moor Lane in Dale Abbey, alongside one in Morley.

PC Russell Crooks from Ilkeston Rural Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team invited local residents to assist him with monitoring the speed of traffic passing through.

PC Crooks said: “Speedwatch does play an important role in speed reduction and is very effective.

“In Dale Abbey a total of 13 vehicles were recorded speeding between 35 and 42 mph.”

Letters will be sent to the vehicle owners, advising them of their speed and requesting that they respect local speed limits.

Drivers are also warned that if they are caught breaking the speed limit again they may face a penalty and that data recorded by the initiative may help officers identify locations for speed detection equipment in the future.
