Details are emerging for a vintage-themed street party in Ilkeston town centre next month, aimed at boosting businesses.
The Totally Locally Ilkeston team of volunteers has organised the Vintage and Retro Party, planned for Sunday September 15, as something for the town to look forward to after the summer holidays.
Each shop or cafe taking part will be doing their own thing on the day, explained Susan Smith.
Some of the activities so far include vintage and retro hair, make-up and craft activities, retro-inspired meals in the cafes, children’s activities, live music and even a vintage-style photo booth.
Shopkeepers will be dressing up, selling vintage goods and hosting musicians, artists, crafts people, community groups and guest businesses who don’t have thier own venues.
Susan, also of Wash Arts in Bath Street, said she has been ‘overwhelmed’ by the positive response from town centre businesses so far – many of whom will be opening especially on the Sunday for the event.
“It is so heartening to witness the whole town centre willing to work together under one umbrella to encourage activity,” she said.
“We are delighted that so many business owners have been prepared to open up and do something different on a day when they would normally be taking time off.”
