AN EARLY riser managed to catch this shot of Ilkeston’s iconic Stanton wagon being removed for maintenance.

Local historian Stephen Flinders was there at the Chalons Way roundabout at about 5.30am on Sunday, armed with his camera.

A section of railway line was laid so that the 12-tonne wagon could be pulled on to the back of the lorry, which took it to Chesterfield at about 7.10am.

Council leader Cllr Chris Corbett said: “Once we have heard what needs to be done and the costs involved, we shall ask the residents for their views.”
