A Ready, Steady Cook event, a languages day and refugee awareness were on the timetable at an Ilkeston school this week.

The innovative sessions were run as part of an intensive learning week at Ormiston Ilkeston Enterprise Academy, during which the whole school took part in activities designed to broaden their life skills and experience.

Students competed in a Ready, Steady, Cook event, which saw them split into two teams cooking two different healthy meals.

Pupils also took part in a languages day and refugee awareness sessions, during which students looked at the situation of refugees in various countries.

There was also an adventurous activities day and falconry show.

Joel Smith, intensive learning week co-ordinator, said students thoroughly enjoyed the week.

He said: “It was all about students learning new skills and increasing their knowledge by trying new and different activities.”
