A 21-year-old woman who died in a crash on the A610 Eastwood has been named as Abbie Chambers from Heanor.

Abbie was the pillion passenger on an orange Suzuki Bandit motorcycle.

The 21-year-old male driver, from Ilkeston, sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre. He is still receiving hospital treatment.

The collision happened at around 2.50pm on Wednesday, approximately 450m from the A6096 Giltbrook junction. Floral tributes have been left at the scene.

The three motorbikes and a car involved were all travelling outbound towards the A608 Langley Mill junction.

The drivers of the other three vehicles were uninjured: a 19-year-old Derby man, riding a white and red Yamaha YZF 600 R6; a Derbyshire man, aged 19, on a yellow Honda CBR600 and the driver of a red Peugeot 206, an Ilkeston woman, aged 20.

Road closures were in place on the A610 at the Ikea island, B&Q island and Brook Hill Leys Road entrance, with diversions through Eastwood and Kimberley while emergency services and forensic examiners attended the scene. Roads were fully reopened by around 11.30pm.

Anyone who saw the vehicles involved around the time of the collision should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously.
