Strict orders about keeping dogs under control in the borough were set to be given the thumbs up by councillors yesterday (Wednesday).
Under the new rules set to be agreed by Erewash Borough Council’s executive board, dogs will be banned from play areas and must be kept on leads in public cemeteries.
Owners face higher penalties for failing to pick up after their pets. It will be a criminal offence to be in breach of the orders and dog owners could face fines of up to £1,000.
Alternatively, offenders could pay a fixed penalty fee of £80, reduced to £60 for payment within 10 days.
