YOU voted in your hundreds for your favourite Ilkeston shop assistant – and this week we can reveal the winner is Dot Gibson from Superdrug.

Gracious Dot said her win was a ‘team effort’, and was down, not just to her, but to all the staff at the Albion Centre store.

“It’s a shock,” she said. “I honestly never thought I’d win.

“A lady came in to say well done the other day, and I said to her, ‘I feel a bit daft because I don’t think it’s me that’s been nominated, I think it’s the whole shop, It’s a team effort.”

It was a close competition with only a handful of votes in it at the top.

Second place went to Minesh ‘Michael’ Patel, from Gallows Inn Post Office, and third went to Laura Stevenson, from Ilkeston Co-op Department Store.

Advertiser editor Peter Hemmett presented Dot with her top prize – a £50 goodie bag packed with cosmetics and toiletries, courtesy of Weleda in Heanor Road.

It was a bumper Superserver competition this year with 26 shop assistants, from shops in Bath Street, South Street, Nottingham Road and Cotmanhay battling it out for your votes.
