AN ILKESTON teenager has been picked to be the only Scout from the town to fly to Scandinavia for an international Scouting convention.
The World Scouting Jamboree 2011 is this year to be held in Sweden – and 15-year-old Fraser Goldsworth will be representing British Scouting.
The St John Houghton pupil, who has now transferred from the 21st Ilkeston Scouts to the Ilkeston District Explorers, said he can’t wait.
“I am really excited,” he said.
“What I’m most looking forward to is meeting people from different cultures and finding out what Scouting is like around the world.” Scouts from all over the globe will be at the event later this month.
Fraser has had to raise £450 through bag packing, odd jobs and a party at his Shipley Common Lane home at the weekend to go on the trip.
Mum Nicola said: “I am feeling very proud because he’s had to put a lot of time and effort into doing it. We have helped him out as much as we can, especially his sister Harriet.”
