The work of a talented young artist from Ilkeston received award winning recognition at Buxton Fringe Festival.
Alice Macqueen, 18, was awarded third place in the Peak District Artisans’ Young Artist of the Year contest which gives recognition to art students aged 16-25 with outstanding talent.
Alice has already sold her winning piece. Based on a member of the public that she approached to photograph for her sixth form art project, the piece went on to be displayed in her school gallery.
She said: “I was amazed when my subject later contacted the school asking to see my work. I think he was quite overwhelmed to see himself on canvas, but it was so nice to see him again.
“It’s fantastic to be recognised among such great talent, and a real privilege to have the opportunity to exhibit my work alongside some of the Peak District’s finest artists.”
First prize went to Alex Jabore from Wilmslow, whilst second place went to Georgia Hrubiak from Matlock.
