Sir,

Is there any wonder that the market is going downhill?

People are not coming onto Bath Street or the market as there is nothing to come for.
Now that Argos has gone people will go to the retail park and do what shopping they have to do there or they will go to Tesco, so have no need to come into Ilkeston.

There should be no parking fees. It stands to reason that the Tory councillors don't want to promote Ilkeston as they don't live or shop here. I've always said the relief road and pedestrianisation haven't been any good for Ilkeston.

The heart and character has been taken out of Ilkeston, all it needs now is for Wilkinson's and the Co-op to close.

Once a thriving town it is now a ghost town and in years to come all Ilkeston will be is a suburb of Nottingham.

Since 1974 we have been going downhill. Why doesn't the council encourage more shops into Bath Street and it would be nice to have a decent supermarket.

Another thing that has killed Bath Street off is no transport up or down Bath Street. Buses used to run from Cotmanhay right through to
Hallam Fields and vice versa.
