It was a day for the bowlers at Sandiacre as 19 wickets fell in the second team’s encounter with South Wingfield.

Batting first South Wingfield were reduced to 49-6 before a stand of 97 between Chris Dunn (54) and Andrew Lowe (39) helped South Wi
ngfield recover.

Both batsmen then fell with the score on 146 and the innings wrapped up soon afterwards for 165 as Kev Newbold (3-19), Andrew Marlow 3-58 and Jamie Taylor (2-33) all enjoyed success with the ball.

Sandiacre’s chase wasn’t plain sailing either as the loss of three early wickets had them under some pressure.

Ady Taylor and Ashley Brown put on 48 for the fourth wicket but when Taylor fell for 34 it sparked a collapse that saw Sandiacre struggling on 97-7.

Ben Trembling joined wicketkeeper Dave King and took the score along to 138 before Trembling was bowled for 11.

MacNamee followed him back for nought and with only Andrew Marlow, without a run since 2007, left to come it looked bleak for Sandiacre.

Marlow managed to keep his wicket intact though as King scored the remaining runs required to finish with an unbeaten 37 as Sandiacre won by one wicket.

Sandiacre’s third team rounded off a successful day for the club with a three-wicket win over Stainsby Hall’s second XI.

Stainsby batted first and were kept to 159-8 from their 46 overs.

John Rigby, Adnan Rashid and Pete Trembling were all amongst the wickets with three, two and two respectively.

Pete Stone put up some resistance for Stainsby with 32 and there were useful contributions down the order from Ben Bignull (20) and Matthew Bramhall (19*).

Sandiacre’s chase wasn’t as straightforward as they would have liked as they lost seven wickets but a solid 53 from John Murfin and Adnan Rashid’s quick fire 37 from 25 balls was enough to get Sandiacre over the winning line.

The first team were back in action on Sunday in the Derbyshire Cup and progressed to the quarter final stage with a thumping nine-wicket win over Mansfield Hosiery Mills.

Mansfield won the toss and elected to bat but never really recovered from the damage done early on when Dan Wheeldon dismissed the top three with just 23 on the board.

Adnan and Jayasinghe added 57 for the fourth wicket but when John Jordison dismissed Jayasinghe for 23 Mansfield collapsed to 132 all out.

It was the spin of Ian Parkin and John Trueman that did the damage as both picked up three wickets on a track that offered them plenty of assistance.

In reply Dan Birch got Sandiacre off to a flyer making 28 at quicker than a run a ball before falling lbw to James Fraser.

Trueman and James Chapman saw Sandiacre home with ease finishing 55 not out and 38 not out respectively.

Sandiacre host Caythorpe in the next round on July 19.
