TRINITY heavyweight star David Davis came back to the ring in London last week and thrilled a partisan home crowd.
He pushed local hero Tony Conquest all the way on the Dagenham Boxing Club tournament at the Ford Sport and Social Centre.

David, 21, had been out of action for over a year but took on top London prospect Conquest, wobbling him with big combinations inside the first minute.

Both lads opened up but David finished the first round on top.

David still forced the pace in round two but the local man rallied, backed by a big home support.

In the last round both went for the win early on but the fast pace took its toll and both used their experience to slow things down.

At the final bell the decision was in doubt but the local man took the judges’ vote to the delight of the local fans.

David though gets an immediate chance for revenge on Trinity’s own tournament at The Festival Inn, Trowell, next Friday (17th)

Trinity coach Scott Rafferty said: “David was very unlucky not to get the decision but will be far better prepared for the return.

“He took this fight at very short notice having only trained for three weeks but, with this fight under his belt and a further two weeks in the gym, he will be a different prospect.”

Tickets for the Trinity show at The Festival Inn are selling fast but are still available from Scott Rafferty on 079 56 56 55 82.

Also on the Dagenham show was young female star Chloe Hemstock, 11, who featured in a very close bout with home club fighter Sereena Wybrow, who took a close judges verdict, but Chloe also gets the chance of revenge on the Festival bill.

Both boxers were very skilful and looked to pinch points between good movement.

The local girl came out in a south paw stance (right hand lead) which Chloe had to adjust to quickly.

But this didn’t deter her as she tried to catch the elusive local girl.

After three entertaining rounds the judges gave the London girl the verdict which sets up an eagerly anticipated return on the Trinity bill.

Scott Rafferty added: “Chloe boxed very well against a very awkward opponent and will now have the experience behind her.

“Both girls were very good technically but Chloe can gain revenge next week when backed by a big Ilkeston support.”

A full squad of Trinity’s talent will be on display next week including club captain Josh Robinson, who will face top Telford prospect Josh Cooper in a middleweight bout over four rounds.

Also in action will be Trinity’s nationally ranked Jamie Williams and Reece Godfrey.

Several boxers will make their debut on the show including the sons of Trinity’s first ever national champion Danny Rafferty.

Louie, 14, and Danny Jnr, 12, are both part of Trinity’s future and eager to impress.

Also in line to make their first start are Jay Inwood, Brodie Raeside and Archie Chadwick.

Boxing starts at 8pm.
