HOOKING Balls have at last got the monkey off their backs in recording their first win of the season in the Derbyshire Building Society Trios.
After a run of 6-2 defeats, last season’s runners-up would hardly have expected to end the sequence against Suk-Is-Bak.
This was, however, Hooking Ball back to something approaching their best, with Martin Chapman shooting 717, Greg Pullinger 631
and Colin Chapman 623.
Despite another 700 by Daz Cundy (701) an otherwise below-par Suk-Is-Bak’s three-match 100 per cent record came to a sharp 8-0 halt.
Tigers regain the lead by two points from Patchwork Grace who move up one place to second, the champions back down to third.
Tigers had Dave Buckley on 594 and Jason Carnelly 584 in an 8-0 win over Thunderbirds while Patchwork Grace are improving fast, Gary Derbyshire hitting 603 and Craig Wilson 602 as they made a clean sweep against Hustlers whose top man was Glynn Andrews on 586.
Nemesis join Tsunami on level points at the top of the Ron Brooks Toyota Trios. They gained a maximum four against Jet Cafe while sets of 596 by Ian Sugden and 571 from Steve Webb kept Nemesis one step ahead in a close 3-1 win over Piggybank, who only had Brian Thomas on good form with 632.
Treble Scotch exchange places with Tri Hard III after beating them 4-0, Steve Norton shooting 667 and Paul Snell 618.
Top Kats go from strength to strength in teh Roadrunners Doubles. A 6-2 win over their nearest challengers There’s Always One, Brian Thomas shooting 653 and Bernie Warnes 573, takes them 11 points clear and well on track to regain the title they last held two seasons ago.
One Spare Short overtake Classics in going third, four behind There’s Always One. Sets of 582 from Craig Church and 557 from Mick Hardy gave them all eight against Probe for whom Adrian Moore rolled 555.
Classics slip to fourth after crashing 8-0 to a 609 by Trent Enders’ Andrew Lacey.
Slow and Steady lead the Premier Doubles, five ahead of three teams all on levels - Hit and Miss, Piggybank and Moss. A 7-0 win over The Mafia put the leaders top for the first time this season.
Hit and Miss fell 7-0 to champions Piggybank, whose top bowler was Craig Church on 566.
Moss are making early progress, Gavin and Dennis Henshaw on 599/576 in a 7-0 win over Never Mind.
