ANOTHER week, another whipping for the opposition in the Derbyshire Building Society Trios.
Thunderbirds became the latest team to fail the ‘Daz Challenge’ of Cundy and McFadden (750/639).
As a result, Suk Is Back continue their romp 23 points clear of Hooking Balls.
Not only are they winning, but are usually winning 8-0, thus Hooking
Balls can’t find an opening.
Certainly not if they let needless points slip away as they have in the last two matches, although eventually powering their way to 6-2 victories.
They had to overturn a 2-0 deficit before pulling away from Hellcatz, Rob Thurlby top man on 675.
There is another large space of 20 points between Hooking Balls and third-placed Patchwork Grace, who shared the spoils with Tigers. Dave Buckley was high man on 627, but Patchwork came back from 4-0 down to level led by Gary Derbyshire’s 639.
For the past two seasons the Premier Doubles title has been a family affair. It is now likely this will spread to the league preceding the Sunday Prem, the Roadrunners Doubles.
With only position round week to play, the husband and wife team Probe, Adrian and Hilary Moore, need only to draw one game against Mugwumps to secure the title.
Probe could have put the issue beyond doubt with a clean sheet against Trent End but a 6-2 win leaves them eight points clear of Mugwumps and almost across the line.
The onus will be on Mugwumps as they could only draw 4-4 with One Spare Short.
Second-place could also fall to There’s Always One, Top Kats and Opne Spare Short.
There’s Always One had Chris Neave on 578 in their 8-0 win over Gladiators, while Top Kats had Brian Thomas on 646 and Bernie Warnes 563 in a 6-2 win against the same team.
Barry Sinclair’s 565 led Novices to a 6-2 win over Senators.
It’s time for crisis talks for Huw and Us in the Ron Brooks Toyota Trios. A lame 4-0 defeat against Tsunami was their third on the spin.
Treble Scotch lost 4-0 to Piggybank, despite Paul Snell hitting 652. Brian Thomas smashed 701 (221-222-258) supported by Mick Roberts on 601 and Pete Wainwright’s 569.
Jet Cafe go fourth after Chris Neave hit 619 to lead their 3-1 win over Nemesis.
