AVEAC athletes help Derbyshire team to victory

Eleven of Amber Valley and Erewash Athletic Club’s brightest prospects helped the Derbyshire U11s county team to victory in the Aviva ‘Fun in Athletics’ Sportshall Regional final in Grantham.

The Derbyshire team of 24 boys and girls competed against other East Midlands county teams and won both the boys and girls seperate competitions, the boys beating Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire who tied equally for second place, and the girls convincing winners over the Nottinghamshire girls team.

The Derbyshire team performed strongly in the relay and field events with particular success going to Tamsin McGraw and Scott Ram, both winning the standing long jump.

Maisie Knighton won speed bounce, Claudia Johnson came second in target throw, and George Dave took second in standing long jump and third in chest push.

Other AVEAC athletes in the team were William Collings, Joseph Johnson, Dexter Deaville, Emily Coope, Cara Brown and Sophie Meakin.
