Double trouble as Trinity pair both win

Trinity boxers continued this year's outstanding form in Coventry last week.

Two of the Ilkeston club's fighters beat home town boxers in style at the Standard Triumph Sports Club's own promotion.

Jacob Robinson was in determined mood as he dominated his encounter with Daniel Coulson of the promoting club, his higher work rate and superior boxing skills seeing him take a unanimous points decision.

Jacob, 15, started fast with solid left jabs piercing the guard of the Coventry boxer and as he established his dominance, good body shots kept him in control.

Coulson tried hard to stay in the fight but the Ilkeston lad had too much in every department as he took a convincing decision.

There was also a pleasing debut for 12-year-old Jordan Lewis, who faced fellow debutant Calum Solan of the home club.

Jordan was soon in command in the opening exchanges and a solid right hand forced a count early in the first round as he built up a good lead.

The Trinity lad continued to score with solid punches but the Coventry boxer made a real fight of it in the last round, getting through with some quality punches.

This didn't deter Jordan who fought back well to take a split decision on the judges' cards.

Trinity coach Scott Rafferty said: "Jacob boxed very well. He established himself in the contest and showed great confidence. I am pleased all his hard work in the gym has paid off.

"Jordan made an excellent debut. He worked well to show his skills and also fought back well when put under pressure to hold on for a deserved decision."

Trinity boxers will be in action on home ground at the Festival Inn next Friday, March 12.

A full programme of boxing featuring Trinity boxers in every bout is on the cards.
