by Mark Cufflin

The Elks travelled to Castle Donington on Saturday and batting first posted a good score of 215 for 8 in their 46 overs.

Captian S Law top scored with 68 and the only other major contribution came from S Walker with 41 while Castle Donnington bowler M Ashfaq took 5 for 69.

Castle Donington paced their innings to perfection always looking like they would reach the required target, which they did losing only four wickets and winning with just seven balls left.

The innings was held together by S Wiggins who made 81 and he was well supported by D Matlock with 36.

The seven points for the loss saw Elks drop to second place, seven points behind the leaders and just nine points then seperate the next three sides.

Easy Win For Seconds

Batting first at home to Riddings on Saturday Elks posted a very good score of 229 for 4 in their 46 overs with P Anderson top scoring with an excellent 82 not out and Mark Aldred also making a very good 76.

The Riddings batsmen had no answer to the Elks’ bowling attack as they were dismissed for 68 in just 25 overs with M Case taking 3 for 20 and L Simpson 3 for 25.

The 27 points gained from the 161-run victory keeps Elks in the promotion race.

They lie third in the table with the same number points as second-placed Ambergate who have a game in hand, and 28 points behind the leaders Butterley on whom the Elks have two games in hand.
