Entries for the second annual Jog Derbyshire 5k at Shipley Country Park are now open.
The race will be held on Sunday, September 4 and is being organised by Jog Derbyshire, which runs a network of community-based jogging groups for beginners around the county.
The 5k is open to all and is particularly aimed at those who are new or returning to running, and those who are looking to take part in their first organised race or are looking for a new challenge after taking part in an event such as Race for Life.
Entrants can walk, jog or run the 5k, which is a scenic off-road route which follow tracks and trails around Shipley Country Park.
This year’s 5k at Shipley Country Park will also incorporate the Active Derbyshire Workplace Challenge, which is open to work-based teams of four.
The event is being supported by Tom Glick, Derby County FC president and chief executive, who took part in last year’s event with his wife Maria.
Tom said: “I really enjoyed taking part in the Jog Derbyshire 5k last year. It is a terrific event with a really friendly atmosphere, and it was great to see so many people taking part, whether they ran the entire course, jogged around or walked.
“Events like this help provide purpose and focus if you are trying to improve your fitness, whatever level you are at.
“The workplace team challenge element will also be a great addition to the Jog Derbyshire 5k this year.
“Training for and taking part in an event like this can really help to boost team building as well as being the perfect opportunity to have fun and spend time with colleagues away from the office.”
The 5k will start at 10.30am on Sunday, September 4 and will be chip-timed, with a memento for all finishers.
Entries cost £5 for Jog Derbyshire Dynamos club members, and £6 for other individuals. Workplace team entry is £25 per team.
Jog Derbyshire Co-ordinator Tom Crampton said: “We are really excited to be staging our second 5k event at Shipley Country Park.
“It will be a great opportunity for friends, families or work colleagues to get active together, walk, jog or run around the course and most importantly have fun.”
