Boss Paul Cox says the fans can shape Mansfield Town’s destiny
Stags v Slough Town
MANSFIELD Town boss Paul Cox reckons the atmosphere generated by fans during the club’s current FA Cup heroics could be the key to promotion success.
Cox, who celebrates his 41st birthday on the day of the Liverpool game, knows a sell-out One Call Stadium will make the hairs on the back of the neck stand up like it did in the Lincoln replay.
He said: “The pulse in the ground against Lincoln was absolutely immense.
“This club can be the master of its own destiny if these people keep coming and getting behind the lads. This club can be very successful.
“I know we didn’t get off to the best start this season, which may have been down to a bit of over-expectation. Some of the performances did justify the stick we got.
“But some of the stick was over the top and it’s always been about what happens at the business end of the season.
“When the fans here are 100 per cent behind the lads this ground is a cauldron and very intimidating for players to come here and play.
“I am just hoping the fans keep coming down and getting behind us to give us that energy in the stadium.
“We must look beyond the 6th January as promotion is our main aim this season and the boys feed off the noise the fans make.”
