THE goals rained in again for the Robins as they overcame resilient Loughborough Dynamo in an entertaining affair in Leicestershire on Saturday.
Roared on by an Ilkeston travelling army who probably doubled what the attendance might have been had they stayed at home, the visitors struck four for the second time in a week as they continue to find their feet in Evo-Stik Division South.
Ilkeston took the lead with their first attack and it was a stunning strike. A long ball forward was nodded down by Gary Ricketts to Joe Maguire 25 yards out, and he hit a stunning effort into the top corner off the post in just the third minute.
Jemiah Richards then diverted the ball past his own post after good work from Ricketts, and from the resulting corner, Josh Hill’s header was saved low down by Kahil Mann-Kler.
Matt Langham’s low drive straight at Aaron Butcher was Loughborough’s first effort of note on 18 minutes. and ten minutes later Will Grocutt had a similar effort after a corner wasn’t cleared.
The game had become a scrappy encounter after a bright start, but with the Robins looking a little jittery at the back it was another stunner got Loughborough level on 33 minutes.
In the midst of a good spell of pressure, a corner was only partly cleared to Neil Morgan who volleyed it back into the net from the edge of the penalty area.
But Ilkeston were to go back in front five minutes later. The ever-tricky Will McCall was fouled after beating Jake Betts in the penalty area, and although Maguire’s first penalty was poor and saved low by Mann-Kler, the rebound fell straight to the taker who slammed home his second goal.
Butcher saved well from Langham on 41 minutes after the Dynamo man had worked space for himself, and Ash Way half-volleyed wide in a decent position before the half was up, while Maguire’s participation was over when he picked up a knock in the closing stages of the first period, replaced by Ryan Wilson.
Way, who was the hosts’ most impressive performer, had the first real chance of the second-half when he found space on the left but could only drag his shot wide.
Ricketts then headed McCall’s cross over the top for the visitors, but Ilkeston were to go 3-1 up on 58 minutes.
Adam Colton’s overhead through ball set Daryll Thomas through on goal, and he finished well to maintain his fine scoring record.
But Dynamo weren’t lying down and pulled a goal back on 64 minutes, when Joe Wilcox didn’t deal with a ball into the box and it eventually fell to Way who finished well.
Ricketts saw a header cleared off the line from Colton’s corner moments later, before sub James Cullingworth’s poor clearance fell to Way once more at the other end but this time he blazed just over the top.
Dynamo were remaining a threat, sub Dan Stevenson glancing a header wll wide not long after coming on, but the fourth goal for the visitors was to come on 78 minutes.
A corner bobbled around before falling to McCall on the edge of the box, and he hammered a left foot shot into the net.
Thomas headed over right in front of goal with five minutes to go, and had another opening minutes later when running in on goal from a wide position only to see his effort pushed over the bar, but four was enough and the points went back to the New Manor Ground.
