Lester reflected on a ‘special time’ with Chesterfield before stating his intention to remain involved with the beautiful game, and hasn’t ruled out playing.

He said: “Everyone thinks they’ve got something left to offer, I’ll probably still think that when I haven’t.”

“I’ve had a couple of tentative approaches, but obviously I’ve only just announced I’m out there.”

Lester has excelled both on and off the pitch, having already attained his UEFA B coaching badge and gained qualifications in psychology.

He has also had a taste of coaching at Nottingham Forest’s Nigel Doughty Football Academy, during his spare time.

“I’ve spent a lot of time coaching and that’s definitely a route that excites me,” added Lester.

“I don’t think anything will replace playing but I’m looking forward to a new challenge when that day does come.”
