Stanton score four in vital victory

Stanton Ilkeston 4

Shepshed Ingles Sunday U15 2

With only seven games left to play this season, Stanton kept up the pressure on their rivals with a win over Shepshed taking them six points clear at the top.

Shepshed were left stunned as Stanton raced into a 3-0 lead within the first 15minutes of this game courtesy of a brilliant hat-trick from Jamie Marriott.

His first came as Connor Hodges found space to put a cross into the box, where Marriott was waiting to show great technique and hit a sweet volley past the keeper.

Taylor Bull was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet after seeing his header go wide of the post and having one of his shots blocked by a defender, but it fell to Marriott to slot home.

This was one-way traffic as Stanton were encamped in Shepshed’s half.

Some good work in midfield saw Kieran Widdowson put clear, only to be brought down in the box and the referee pointed to the spot.

Marriott put the ball down on the spot and the outcome was never in doubt as he smashed the ball home for his hat trick.

Shepshed did manage to score a free kick before half-time.

Within a minute of the second half starting, Stanton were 4-1 up when Jordan Severn floated a free-kick beyond the back four so that James Hemingway could coolly lob the advancing keeper.

With only ten minutes to play Shepshed got another goal but Stanton held firm for the win and an important three points.
