DARRYL Thomas scored his sixth goal of an mpressive pre-season as Ilkeston rounded off their friendly campaign with a draw against Evo-Stik Premier Division side Mickleover.

After a slow opening, Sports’ Jamie Pawley went close on 21 minutes but his long range effort dropped wide, before Liam Walshe forced Robins keeper Aaron Butcher to palm 30-yard shot over the top.

Ilkeston’s first major opening came when a fine ball from Adam Colton found Thomas who ran in on keeper Alessandro Barcherini but saw his low shot parried away.

But the visitors were to take a fortunate lead on 34 minutes.

A long ball caused confusion between Butcher and Joe Wilcox, the end result seeing Wilcox touch the ball past his keeper and leave Eric Graves with a simple tap into an empty net.

Liam Green and Colton both went close before the break, as did Mickleover’s Kieran O’Connell, and the hosts eventually levelled with the first chance of the second-half.

Wilcox broke forward and slipped a ball through to Thomas who produced a powerful finish into the far corner from eight yards out.

Sub Tyrell Waite blasted over and Butcher was called upon to save efforts from O’Connell and Graves, before Will McCall twice went close after good moves, a volley hitting the side netting and then a low shot was well saved.

Mickleover’s David Lee then fired over from distance, but that was the last threat on goal as the game petered out into a draw.
