Wilson left fuming after officials’ poor performance

Kevin Wilson feels poor refereeing decisions cost his Ilkeston FC side the chance to overcome Hednesford Town on Tuesday night.

Wilson believes both the failure to award his side a goal when Greg Tempest’s corner appeared to cross the line and also to send off defender Sam Barnes for a professional foul on Aaron Hooton in the first-half were pivotal to the outcome of the game.

And with a controversial penalty also awarded to the hosts late on, Wilson expressed his frustration after the match.

He said: “I know it’ll sound like sour grapes but I just feel the key decisions were wrong.

“For me Aaron’s clean through in the middle of the pitch and the lad should have been sent off as there were no covering defenders.

“Then they missed what the video shows was a blatant goal as well as a handball.

“I was sent to the stands for my conduct at half-time when talking to the referee which I probably deserved, but I’m the manager of the team and feel responsible for my players who had been wronged.

“It’s not good enough. You could tell by the players’ reaction that mistakes had been made.

“It’s a shame as we’d done well in the first-half and were then undone by a fortunate goal from which we didn’t really recover.

“But there’s a lot of spirit and fight out there and I don’t think the players will need much picking up for the next few games”

Wilson expects midfielder Matt Richards to be back in contention for the matches at Marine on Saturday and at home to Grantham on Monday, though Laurie Wilson (work) will miss out.

Winger Jack Eades’ loan from Cambridge United has now finished and fellow loanee Greg Tempest will be assessed after picking up a knock at Hednesford.
