Granby kids compete at Moorways
A YEAR six team of 20 children from Granby Junior School have represented Erewash in the Derbyshire Schools Indoor Athletics Championships.
To qualify for the event the team had to win a top three place in the Ilkeston final before competing with the top three from Long Eaton.
Havin won this competition they travelled to the Moorways Sports Centre in Derby to compete against eight other schools from across the county.
The team received extra coaching from Judy Payling of Amber Valley Athletic Club and took part in a variety of running, jumping and throwing events.
The competition was tough and the team finished in eighth spot overall.
Teacher Ian Bond said: "The team were naturally disappointed but can be proud of their achievement in being the eighth best primary school athletics team in Derbyshire."
Overall winners were Gayton Primary School, representing Derby West.
The Granby team consisted of: Harry Duckels, Aiden Newton, Sam Potter-Crookes, Ben Holt, James Hindle, Andrew Brown, Ryan Cumiskey, Tom Caines, Tommy Brooks, Oliver Miles, Lauren Cox, Georgia Hayes, Jack Taylor, Grace Chambers, Amber Rhodes, Maisie Harrison-Roe, Rachel Kendrick, Katie Melbourne, Casey Henderson and Lucy Stanton-Lynch.
