An explosive century by Alex Jordan and all-round fireworks from Rob Green fired Ilkeston Rutland to the Derbyshire County League, Second Division title on a dramatic final day of the season.
Rutland routed South Wingfield by 158 runs to pocket the maximum quota of 27 points from their last game. And although arch rivals, Langley Mill United, also won and also took the maximum, meaning the two sides finished level on the same number of points at the top, the Ilkeston team were crowned champions. The pair finished a massive 100 points clear of third place.
Opener Jordan cracked 106, including six sixes and 13 fours, off 100 balls as Rutland totalled 228-6 before declaring at the end of the 38th over. He was helped by David Smit (23) and Damien Jones (22).
Green also added a breezy 40 (one six and five fours) off 29 deliveries late on in the innings before he unleashed a devastating bowling spell that skittled Wingfield for just 70. He returned impeccable figures of 6-16 from 16 overs and was ably supported by James Lockhart, who bagged 3-41 from 13 overs.
