Ilkeston progress to the semis after penalty shoot-out

Ilkeston Town U10 0 Melbourne Utd Red Sox 0 (Ilkeston win 2-1 on pens)

Ilkeston knew what to expect from the only team to have beaten them this season, but they matched Melbourne man for man.

Townsend and Shaw at the back were solid and man of the match Limb pulled off a number of vital saves but was never really troubled.

Stevenson in the middle added a bit of steel which was missing last time, while Whelan and Proctor-Smith were both industrious in attack and defence.

Butler, who was pulled and kicked all over the pitch last time, stood strong and put himself about rattling the Melbourne defence as it wasn't what they were expecting.

Ilkeston created the better chances with Butler stealing a yard on a couple of occasion but was unable to beat the Melbourne keeper.

Stevenson also had a chance but again the keeper saved well.

Beauchamp replaced Stevenson and had a couple of opportunities but was closed down quickly by the Melbourne defence.

Extra-time was played out with neither team creating a clear cut chance, so it was down to the lottery of penalties to see who would progress to the semi-final.

And Ilkeston had goalkeeper Limb to thank as he saved two out of three to send his team through.
