Ilkeston Rutland Juniors
The individual performance of the week happened in an Under 15 game last Tuesday when 12-year-old Kai Grant re-wrote the junior record books with an astonishing 7 for 12 from only 21 deliveries.
Spondon simply had no answer to his accurate little floaters and subsided to 73 all out. Rutland made it three wins out of three with George Brandrick unbeaten on 30 in a five wicket triumph.
There was no such joy for the Under 13s when they visited Spondon on Sunday morning.
They made 74 for 7 from their 20 overs with Charlie Shetliffe top-scoring with 13 and Jay Baker proving impossible to dismiss.
Spondon made light work of the chase but not before Aaron Shephard took two wickets on his debut and Dalton Smith had surprised everyone with a sharp catch.
The game of the week, however, was on Monday night at the Rec when the Under 17s won a nail-biter against Ockbrook.
Batting first, the visitors got off to a flying start plundering 34 from the first four overs. But Cory Kennedy then had the in-form Jacob Conners caught with his first delivery and also took out the big-hitting Rob Altoft two balls later.
Rutland’s spinners – Tom Bobeszko, George Brandrick and Alex Watson conceded just 18 runs from their ten overs and Ockbrook closed on 73 for 8.
It was never going to be easy for Rutland against a quality bowling attack but Kennedy the batsman held his nerve to see the side to a two-wicket win with two balls remaining and preserve their 100 per cent record.
