Keeper Adamson set for Hereford
ILKESTON Town boss Kevin Wilson is seeking a quality keeper with Chris Adamson likely to join Hereford United as a coach.
The former Stockport County stopper would also occupy the role of back-up keeper at the League Two side, if the deal goes through.
Wilson has contacted several clubs and may sign a replacement on a one-year loan if a permanent deal is unavailable.
He said: "Adamson will be hard to replace with the season he had. That’s my priority at the moment and I have been talking to clubs to see who is available."
Wilson said as many as four players could be signed in the next few days. These include a striker, wide player, goalkeeper and midfield player.
A total of 28 players - including triallists - took part in training on Tuesday, following a session on Saturday.
Wilson, who led the introductions, said: "I was delighted with the work and the work ethic shown by everybody.
"I was also happy with their condition, which allowed us to get the balls out a lot quicker," said Wilson after reporting a full turnout on Saturday.
The first friendly will be the trip to UniBond Division One Quorn on Saturday, July 11, kick-off 3pm.
Ilkeston fans are keenly awaiting the visit by big-spending Nottingham Forest, who are due at the New Manor Ground on Saturday, July 18, kick-off 3pm. After a summer without football, it should create plenty of interest.
The Blue Square North fixtures are due out at the end of this week, with tasty local derbies sure to attract plenty of attention and healthy gates.
For the first time in several years, Ilkeston will be in the same division as old rivals Alfreton Town, who spectacularly knocked them out of the FA Cup in a midweek replay last season.
The Robins will be hoping to maintain their recent series of fine results against Eastwood Town, who were promoted as UniBond Premier champions. Ilkeston chased them until the final weeks of the season before winning promotion via two thrilling play-off matches.
Pre-season work continues on Thursday, July 23, when Ilkeston travel to Chasetown for a 7.30pm kick-off. That weekend they go to Banbury, the non-league side where Derby County scouts were first impressed by Wilson. Rams boss Colin Addison signed him and that led to a career in the top flight for the Robins' manager.
On Tuesday, July 28, starting at 7.30pm, the Robins will play Worksop, who will be sharing the New Manor Ground for the coming season.
A squad will visit Sheffield FC on Saturday, August 1, kick-off 3pm. This will be mainly a squad game as the more senior players will be preparing for a trip to Field Mill on Monday August 3.
That game is part of the deal agreed when David Holdsworth became manager of Conference National side Mansfield Town shortly after Christmas. It will be the final warm-up game for both sides before the start of the league programme.
The fixture will be at Mansfield because that should provide a bigger gate and larger receipts for Ilkeston. Kick-off is at 7.30pm.
