LONG Eaton swimmers were in action again last weekend at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge, competing in the Derventio Excel Level One Open Meet.

The event attracted swimmers from across the country as it was one of the last opportunities to gain a qualifying time for British trials for the Olympics and also provided a chance to swim in the new Olympic pool.

For the Long Eaton members who train full-time with Derventio ExCel, the Derbyshire Performance Club, it was a very satisfying weekend with many more Midland Qualifying Times added to those already achieved at this early stage in the season.

Once again, 11-year old Krissy Tomlinson was on top form, the Ilkeston swimmer finishing first or second in all her events.

She won gold medals in the 200 metres backstroke, freestyle and individual medley, 100m butterfly, backstroke and freestyle and 50m butterfly and freestyle, along with silver in the 100m and 200m breaststroke and 50m freestyle.

Swimming in the 12-year age group, Elle Pryce and Francesca Muir-Harris continue to demonstrate that the increase in training intensity since joining Derventio is now showing in their results.

For Pryce there were second places in the 50m and 200m backstroke, third in the 100m backstroke with further top six finishes in 200m freestyle and breaststroke, 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly.

Muir-Harris secured top six placings in the 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle.

Eleven-year-old Joshua Beech had a very busy schedule, resulting in silver in the gruelling 400m individual medley, third in the 200m freestyle and other top six finishes in the 200m breaststroke, 400m freestyle and 50m freestyle and butterfly.

Fourteen-year-old Oliver Davidson took silver medals in the 100m and 200m backstroke, bronze in the 100m and 200m breaststroke and fourth in the 50m backstroke.

His points tally was sufficient to take second place in the overall Top Boy competition behind Sulleman Butt from Aberdeen.

For the older swimmers there was the addition of finals for their events, so for 16-year-old Mischa Menzies, also of Ilkeston, it was third place in the 100m freestyle, fourth in the 200m freestyle and fifth in the 50m freestyle.

Fourteen-year-old Tyler-Anne Black concentrated on her main events of the 50m and 100 metre freestyle, finishing a creditable third in both finals.
