Long Eaton Swimming Club began their campaign in this year’s Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Junior League competition with a solid performance from the ‘A’ Team who were in action at Queen’s Leisure Centre in Derby.
The first win of the evening came as early as the second event, from the girls’ 12 years and under medley relay team of Katie Sloan, Bethany Sharples, Esther Halford and Mimi Roberts.
Matthew Cross and Katie Sloan, also swimming in the 12 and under age group, each won all three of their allowed events - the 50m fly, freestyle and backstroke.
In their first season eligible to compete in this league, nine-year-olds Summer Simpson (25m free and fly) Lewis Tipping (25m free)and Harmony Torrington (25m breaststroke) demonstrated good technique and determination to win their events.
Madison Walker won the ten-year-old 50m freestyle and then was joined by Harmony, Isabelle Pearson and Isabelle Askham to take the ten years and under medley relay.
The evening was rounded off with the ‘Cannon’ relay, with one boy and one girl from each age group.
This was an exciting finale with the lead changing over the eight lengths as Summer, Lewis, Mimi, Madison, Matthew and Katie were joined by Matthew Luscombe and Jack Roberts to end the gala with a well-deserved win.
