Long Eaton Utd 2

AFC Wulfrunians 2

by Jon Faulkner

Long Eaton United continued their unbeaten start to the season as they held AFC Wulfrunians on Saturday.

After early chances for United’s Jermain Palmer and Theo Smith went close and key man Ross Parker was withdrawn injured, United took the lead on 35 minutes as Palmer and David Boafo combined to set up Jermain Hollis to head home.

The hosts should have gone further ahead on 57 minutes when Hollis saw a shot blocked after good work by Blair Anderson, and they were punished as Wulfrunians levelled when Scott Stevenson netted the rebound after Richard Hankey parried a long-range effort.

United regained the lead with just eight minutes to go, Ben Watkiss finding the net after Anderson nodded a corner back across goal.

But the lead would last just 65 seconds as Jake Sedgemore’s free-kick from out on the left found its way into the net to ultimately mean both sides had to make do with a point.

United are in FA Cup action at Heanor Town on Friday night, kick-off 7.45pm.
