Long Eaton put on a good show
Mayor Jennifer Hulls with Long Eaton club captain Chloe Tipping.
Erewash mayor Cllr Jennifer Hulls and her husband were in attendance on Sunday as Long Eaton Swimming Club hosted their 16th open meet at the Queen’s Leisure Centre in Derby.
The pair were welcomed by club president Keith Kelly and were treated to a fine display of local talent in the pool.
For the Long Eaton swimmers it was an opportunity to gauge progress with all the hard work that is taking place in and out of the pool as they prepare for the County Championships next month.
Chief Coach Spencer George said: “I was very pleased with the skill levels displayed and the great improvement in the finishes.
“This proves the technical skills practiced in training are showing results.”
In the ten-year-old age group Lewis Tipping led the way, winning awards for all his five events, and there were medals for Joseph Pipes (2), Joshua Davis (2) and Nial Tucker, Mimi Roberts and Madison Walker (3).
In the other age groups there were top six finishes for nine-year-olds Annie Hampshire and Bradley Evans, 11-year-old Daniel Foss and a win for Katie Sloan in the 100 metres butterfly, and in the 11/12 age group Matthew Cartwright (3), Bethany Sharples, Megan Smart and Lauren Wilcox.
In the 14 and over age group there were wins in the 100 metres breaststroke for Helen Gorman and Adam Freundlich, along with a further two medals for Adam, Hannah Dowell (3), Josephine Parker, Erin Dilks, Ryan Cendrowski and Oliver Davidson.
