THE British Gas Derbyshire ASA County Championships came to an end with the relay galas last weekend and Long Eaton Swimming Club were in good form.
Winners of the girls 15/18 years medley relay event were Katherine Williams, Hannah Cox, Hannah Jones and Tyler-Ann Black.
This same team went on to reach the final of the Women’s Open Medley relay event where they finished second.
Oliver Davidson, Daniel Sloan, Kay Goulden and Elle Pryce came together to finish second in the final of the 9/14 years mixed freestyle team event.
The Long Eaton swimmers who are the Derbyshire champions for this year are 13-year-Kay Goulden who made a clean sweep of the four Butterfly events, the Adidas Cup for the junior event and the St Andrew Cup for the Open Age Group in the 100m butterfly.
In the 200m butterfly, she also won the Active Sport Trophy for the junior event and the Allen’s of Kingsbury Trophy for the Open event.
Oliver Davidson took the Etwall Eagles Trophy as the winner of the junior 200m backstroke and Mischa Menzies won the Martyn Bartrim Trophy for his 100m butterfly win, along with the Stan Hind Memorial Shield for winning the 100m backstroke. Danny Anderson took the EG Wraith Trophy as Derbyshire Open Champion in the 200m breaststroke.
Chief voach Spencer George summed up the last three weekends by saying: “Last year we totalled 36 gold medals and this year we increased that to 55. An impressive number of Personal Best times were also swum this year, with nearly every swimmer equalling or beating their previous personal best time in most of their races.
“This is a major breakthrough for the club and, hopefully, we can continue to develop in this vein.’
