Somerset’s Marcus Trescothick was dismissed for his second nought of the game on the third morning of the LV= County Championship match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.
At lunch the visitors had plunged to 36-4 in their second innings, holding an overall lead of 122, after Notts had been dismissed for 226.
The day had begun with the home side requiring five runs for a first batting point and they easily achieved their goal by taking 11 runs from Craig Overton’s opening over.
Jake Ball was then dismissed by Jim Allenby, guiding to point for nine but Samit Patel briefly came out on top in a cat and mouse duel as Somerset protected their boundaries.
The batsman hit Allenby over extra cover for six and reached his second Championship 50 of the summer from 107 balls, with five fours and that maximum.
Overton ended Patel’s fun, having him caught at long off for 56, to finish with figures of 4-40.
When Somerset batted they lost Trescothick in the first over and Johannes Myburg in the third, both to Philander.
After a brief stoppage for rain, 19-year-old left armer Luke Wood then removed both Tom Abell and Tom Cooper to lbw decisions
