MATCH PREVIEW: Barwell v Ilkeston FC

Ilkeston will make the short trip to Leicestershire on Saturday looking to end a run of four league games without a win.

The Robins’ last success was the 3-0 victory over Ramsbottom on December 5, although they did ease to a comfortable 5-1 win over Lincoln United in the League Cup on Monday.

They will face a Barwell side who are also struggling for form.

They last won on Boxing Day at Stamford but that is their only success in the last six games, that run including heavy defeats to Blyth Spartans (4-0), Buxton (5-1) and Salford City who thrashed them 7-0 last Saturday.

Three days later, Rushall Olympic won 3-2 at Barwell with Robins boss Andy Watson looking on.

Such was Barwell’s encouraging start to the season, they sit just a point behind Ilkeston in the league table on 36, although the Robins have two games in hand on Jimmy Gennelly’s side.

The two sides last met on October 5 when, still under the tutelage of Gavin Strachan, Ilkeston ran out 1-0 winners at the New Manor Ground thanks to a late penalty from Liam Marshall.
