Proud Erewash Golf Club is celebrating a double dose of success on the team competition circuit. For two teams representing the club lifted prestigious trophies on the same day.
First to tee off at Alfreton were Erewash Valley’s juniors in the final of the Derbyshire Inter-Club League. Victory over Chapel-en-le-Frith clinched them the title, which earned them rich praise. A club spokesman said: “We couldn’t even fulfil our fixtures in this league last year. So to re-enter this time round and go all the way is a fantastic achievement.”
The six players who made up the club’s successful squad were: Harriet Evans, Joss Walmsley, Louis Willey, Max Hughes, Olivia Kelly and Brogan Smith.
Meanwhile, over at Wollaton Golf Club in Nottinghamshire, Gerald Bostock’s Erewash Valley team were playing Renishaw Park in the final of the Taskers Plate competition. And after a close contest, they emerged victorious.
As well as Bostock, the other eight players in the squad were: John Delaney, Karl Darby, Gary Wheatley, David Bull, David Darrington, Mick Clow, Sam Peat and Joe McInerney.
Although the two finals involved different age-groups and were held miles apart, they did link junior golf. For the Taskers competition raised more than £3,000 for junior golf development across the county, and £250 of this has been donated to Erewash Valley.
