Hypnosis has been revealed as a key factor behind the latest victory for Ilkeston’s veteran world heavyweight kickboxing champion, Surge Johal.
Johal, 49, who trains at Fortress MMA in Ilkeston, fought his way to success earlier this month after losing just over three stone following a session with hypnotherapist Bridgette Hamilton on her Breakthrough WeightLoss programme.
“I was training for the fight but was really struggling with my motivation because my weight had crept up to more than 20 stone,” he said. ”My self-discipline was lacking and I was struggling to get in to the zone.
“But after one session with Bridgette, I felt really positive, highly motivated to train and had no desire to eat ‘cheat’ food. I would often hear some of the words and phrases that she used during our session and they helped me stay on track. Ultimately, they helped me to get to where I needed to be in mind and body to win the fight.”
Johal, who has been kickboxing since 1996 and also manages fighters, plunged from 20st 10lb to 17st 9lb in the months leading up to the contest where he beat Coventry’s Lee Greenfield to secure the International Fight League and WRSA K1 class super-heavyweight titles
A hypnosis practitioner for nine years, Bridgette said: “Hypnosis can help people struggling to lose weight because it changes their mindset and helps them to make lifelong changes.”
