Long Eaton swimmers have a successful end to the season

Long Eaton Swimming Club members who regularly train with the Derventio Excel Squad have brought their season to an end at Sheffield’s Pond’s Forge.

They have been competing in the British Gas ASA Age Group and Youth Championships.

Matthew Cross, who is 12 years old, and who has enjoyed much success this year, finished in style making five finals, coming second in the 200 metres freestyle and third in the 400 metres freestyle, giving him fifth place overall in his age group category on a FINA points basis.

The relay events brought a bronze medal for Elle Price, who was in the 4 x 100 metres medley relay team and she was joined by Francesca Muir-Harris for the 4 x100 metres freestyle event, where the team took a silver medal, and a bronze for their performance as members of the 4x 200 metres freestyle team.

At the youth competition for the older swimmers, both Hannah Jones and Kevin Wallbank reached their finals in the 200 metres butterfly.

Hannah also swam in the butterfly leg in the team for final of the Open ladies 4 x100 medley.

Kevin was joined by Mischa Menzies as their team took silver in the Open Men’s 4 x 100 freestyle relay event.

Both swimmers were also part of the 4 x200 freestyle and 4 x 100 medley teams that also made the finals.
