Smalley Lawn Tennis Club is to hold an open day on Sunday, July 21.
The club is based at Dobholes Lane, Smalley, and the event runs from 11.30am-3pm.
Non members and members of all ages are welcome.
There will be a barbecue, a licenced bar including (of course) Pimms, strawberries and cream, and a raffle, where you can win a jelly bean machine.
Entry is free and there will be a chance to try the courts at the club, with all
equipment and balls provided.
There will also be children’s taster sessions with professional coach Simon Klugman for those aged 5-16.
Simon has been a full-time tennis for 12 years , at high-profile locations such as La Manga Tennis Club, Bisham Abbey and Bollettieri Academy in Florida.
Simon did some work before Christmas with Smalley but really started in earnest in April at the club.
From having two junior members to work with then, he now has 15-16 at the club and is keen to get even more local youngsters into the sport, although he also wants to hear from tennis players of all ages and abilities.
He said: “We have brilliant facilities here at Smalley.
“There are two good grass courts and now two hard courts achieved through funding success.
“The club is looking at future plans to build a clubhouse and maybe get floodlights through more funding.”
He added: “Another great thing here is the fee.
“It’s just £58 per year and that’s for the whole family.
“I think that’s the best value I’ve ever come across in all my years in the sport.
“So we are encouraging to people to come along on Sunday and see for themselves what the club has to offer both adults and children.”
