LONG Eaton Swimming Club’s Oliver Davidson has been crowned county champion in his age group for the second year running.

Having won the 12-year-olds tltle last year, the youngster won the 13-year-olds honour this time around after being the top swimmer in a series of meetings.

Sponsored by British Gas, the championships took place over three weekends, with two days each in Chesterfield, Eckington and Derby’s Queens Leisure Centre.

Oliver, who attends Trent college in Long Eaton, also trains with the Derbyshire performance squad Derventio eXcel.

Over the three weekends he won the following medals: 100m IM gold, 200m IM gold, 400m IM gold, 800m free gold, 200m backstroke gold, 1500m free gold, 100m breaststroke silver, 200 breaststroke silver, 50 backstroke silver, 100 backstroke silver, 100 fly silver, 50 breaststroke bronze, and 200 fly bronze.

Some of Oliver’s times attained at the championships gave him qualifying times for the British Gas Midland Age Group Championships at Coventry in June.

Oliver trains with Derventio eXcel seven times a week for two - including five mornings from 5.30am to 7.30am.
