Ilkeston Outlaws U16 58

Hucknall Hornets 21

Ilkeston will play in the semi-final of the Sherwood League this Friday (25th) after overcoming Hucknall in style at Bilborough College.

Outlaws put on a sparkling display of basketball after starting well and pressing for three periods of the game.

The hosts started well and Will Parkin and Matt Watts began the scoring while Sam Turner had no trouble in rebounding and starting the fast break.

Ilkeston led 16-7 at the end of the first and took control of the second period with baskets from James Wood (8), Watts (2), James Gotheridge (2), Dominic Holmes (2) and Rory Beresford (2), whilst restricting Hucknall to two baskets and led 32-11 at half-time.

Outlaws kept the pressure on in the third with Holmes and Wood causing most of the problems and they were 41-15 up going into the final period.

With Ilkeston now back in their zone defence which Hucknall found hard to break down, they were able to steal the ball from the front of the defence, Holmes making most of this and scoring seven points, Watts on four and Turner, Gotheridge and Beresford all on two points.

Coaches and players voted James Wood man of the match.
