More than 150 school pupils from across Derbyshire took part in the inaugural Derbyshire and Derby City Summer Games Plus at Ilkeston’s Rutland Sports Park.

Pupils competed in teams in sports such as athletics, boccia, gymnastics, Kwik Cricket and tennis.

They were also able to choose from taster sessions in archery, fencing and indoor rowing.

The Derbyshire and Derby City Summer Games Plus is a multi-sport event aimed at secondary school pupils with Special Educational Needs in mainstream and special schools.

For many pupils it was a chance to try sports they have never played before, as well as competing in some of their favourite sports.

The games were organised by the Derbyshire Schools SEN PE and Sport Association and are a celebration of the festivals and competitions delivered as part of the 2010/11 SEN Competition Calendar.
