Raceline: Tip of the Day 18th December

editorial image

It’s the last day of racing at Folkestone before the loss-making Kent track closes down. Let’s hope we can mark the sad occasion with a winner.

It’s no exaggeration to say that Alan King’s six-year-old turned in the worst performance of his lightly-raced career at Newbury last time. But the contest was much stronger than it appeared beforehand and also failed to present the novice chaser with a stiff enough test of stamina.

On his fencing debut at Stratford a month earlier, the former Irish point winner had impressed, travelling smoothly and jumping impeccably until he was outstayed in the deep ground. Today, he is back up in trip and back down to a more realistic level. King, who has a terrific strike-rate at doomed Folkestone, feels the gelding has a fine chance of returning to winning ways.
