Robins expelled from Derbyshire Senior Cup

ILKESTON FC have been thrown out of the Derbyshire Senior Cup for fielding an ineligible player against Buxton on Tuesday night.

Winger Sam Duncum was signed in time to play in the re-arranged match, but as he wasn't an Ilkeston player on the date of the original game on January 17, Buxton lodged a complaint which was upheld by the Derbyshire FA.

It was decided that the Robins should be removed from the competition and fined £25.

Club chairman Dave Mantle said: “Our secretary Andrew Raisin has admitted that he made a mistake and is very keen for us to pass on his apologies to supporters.

“Clearly it should not have happened. But I accept that it was a genuine mistake - albeit a costly one - and on this occasion I think we have to bite the bullet and get on with it.”
