Rutland’s youngsters impress once more to go top of the Erewash table

Ilkeston Rutland Juniors

THERE were more wins for Ilkeston Rutland’s youth sides this week.

The U15s climbed to the top of the Erewash table with a convincing 61-run win over unbeaten Sandiacre.

Rutland made 147 for 6 from 20 overs with Jakob Hill recording his second 50 of the season and other useful contributions from Adam Slater (22) and new recruit Max Sugarman (34).

Sandiacre never looked capable of reaching the target and lumbered to 86 for 6.

The U13s, all conquering last season, had yet to win a game this year until Sunday morning.

They broke their duck against Shipley Hall thanks to a match-winning performance by their county girl performer Abi Hall, 12.

After Charlie Shetliffe (16) and captain Kai Grant (26 retired) had given Rutland a sound start, she held the lower order together with an unbeaten 25.She then clean bowled the dangerous Eoin Bowley for 23 and held a skier to halt Shipley’s progress in pursuit of 105.

They finished 17 runs short with Tom Lowe taking two wickets.

The stand-out performance, however, was nine-year-old Owain Parkin, unbeaten on 21 for Shipley.

Ockbrook had proved too strong for Rutland’s U13s on Thursday night. They rattled up 130 for 7 from 16 overs – far too many for the home side who closed on 49 for 2 with Abi Hall again unbeaten on 18.
