Sandiacre stay in second after win
Sandiacre Town kept the pressure on Ockbrook with a relatively comfortable six wicket win over Alfreton.
It could have been a simpler run chase for Sandiacre but for an unbeaten 43 from Alfreton number six Tom Bentley and 42 runs conceded by Sandiacre in extras.
With the talented Matt Lineker, Will Challoner and Alex Mace all back in the shed with just 45 on the board Alfreton had it all to do.
John Aspinal and Andy Gwatkin steadied the ship as Alfreton showed some resolve in the middle order. Aspinal made 38 and Gwatkin 19 but both were dismissed before Alfreton could reach 100 as they found themselves 92-5.
Bentley then anchored the innings with the help of Jon Clarke (19) and Graeme Bush (15) and some wayward Sandiacre bowling, and Alfreton were able to set 205-9. Dan Wheeldon was the pick of the bowlers with 3-60 from his 15 overs.
Alfreton lack a spearhead to their bowling attack and it showed as Sandiacre reached 89 before the loss of James Chapman who fell to the spin of Lineker for 44.
John Trueman and Ant Woolley added 78 for the second wicket before both fell in quick succession for 78 and 37 respectively, before Sandiacre reached their total with four overs to spare.
- A brilliant innings by second XI skipper Gareth Goodall wasn't enough to guide his side to victory at Staveley.
In pursuit of Staveley's 229-8 Sandiacre were seemingly out the game at 140-8 with Goodall and Ashley Brown at the crease but after creating a base Goodall then launched an assault on the Staveley bowling.
He struck eight fours and four sixes on his way to 65 as the innings built to an exciting crescendo with Sandiacre needing 14 from the final over.
Goodall struck the first ball for four, leaving ten needed off five deliveries, but when he was out off the second ball, aiming a big heave over mid-wicket, with him went Sandiacre's hopes of victory.
The rest of the over was played out as Sandiacre ended eight short on 222-9, Chris Pemberton with 6-64 from 14 for Staveley.
Earlier Joe Wilkinson's 89 provided the backbone of Staveley's innings, while Andrew Marlow returned to form with 4-52 from 12 overs.
l Sandiacre's third team enjoyed a comfortable win over Allestree's second XI.
The left arm bowling of Peter Trembling proved too much for Allestree to handle as he enjoyed an eight over spell of bowling which earned him six wickets.
Richard Eley was the only Allestree batsmen to get to grips with the bowling making 47 not out from his sides 123 all out.
Sandiacre made short work of the total, needing just 18 overs to reach their target.
John Murfin made an attacking 63, receiving good support from Paul Chambers who made an unbeaten 33.
- Sandiacre's first and second teams were back in action on Sunday, with the matters of National Cup and Marston's Trophy ties to be decided.
The first team ran out comfortable eight wicket winners at home against an understrength Kimberley side.
In rain affected conditions Kimberley were held to 106-8, Nick Langford top scoring with 34.
As the rains came Sandiacre's target was reduced to 70 by the time play could resume, which proved little difficulty.
John Jordison made an unbeaten 33, while Dan Wheeldon cleared the boundary three times in making 25.
They face the winners of Barnsley and Doncaster, which fell victim to the weather, in the regional semi-final.
The second team took a severely depleted team to Premier League promotion chasers Ticknall and were given a thrashing.
Ticknall made 294-9 from their 50 overs with a hundred from Derbyshire's Paul Borrington (104), 51 from Johnny Thompstone and 40 from Edward Ikin.
Andrew Marlow continued his good form with the ball taking 4-49.
In reply Sandiacre were never in the hunt and were eventually all out for 120, Marlow with 34 - his top score in adult cricket.
