Sunday saw Ilkeston Rutland CC play host to their annual 8-a-side Fun Day competition where 12 teams of varying abilities took part.
The most competitive group saw the defending champions Sam’s Sloggers take on two other Rutland-based sides - Rob Green’s All Stars and the Neanderthol Men, captained by Adam Slater.
It was the Neanderthols that won the group, scraping past the Sloggers by five runs before beating the All Stars thanks to an unbeaten 94 from Alex Park.
But in the semi-finals they were undone by Shipley Hall whose Terry Gainley hit an unbeaten 64 and, in doing so, won the six-hit competition.
In the other half of the draw, Ilkeston Ladies, captained by Bernadette Moulds, won through to the final thanks to some big hitting from honorary ladies David Smit and Andy Flindall.
Shipley prevailed in the final to take the trophy for the first time.
The event, organised by Lee Bradley, was a huge success thanks to his sterling support staff who included Dave Young, Rachel Watson and Danny Law as well as scorers Ellie Parry and Sarah Dosunmu and umpires Malcolm Wilson and Alan Pilbeam.
